Black cherry
Dua Lipa’s dark red hair lives on in all of our minds rent-free, I’m sure. Great if you want to take your red hair into the colder months by deepening it a bit and adding some cool tones with this blackened cherry vibe. Try a low-commitment look with pigmented hair gloss to add some depth and shine, like Lipa’s hair above.
10K Goldlights
“This color is golden blonde in color and tone, with ’10k gold lights’ that have cool reflections for the perfect sparkle,” says celebrity hairstylist Matt Rez, who says it will be the biggest color trend of hair this fall (aka take notes ). “They are blended but impactful and run at length in ribbon form,” he added. See the above look she did on Demi Lovato? “This look has high contrast due to the strategic placement of the color, which really helps them pop against the medium to light brown base colors,” she explains, noting that it’s great for a low-maintenance hair look that like high maintenance.
Lives in blonde
i am too I’m not ready to ditch my beachy summer blonde. But instead of scraping off the highlights I’ve worked so hard for, I ask my stylist for a root smudge à la Tate McRae above. Her hair perfectly reflects this trend of ~perfectly imperfect~ color that looks like it’s been cooked for ages.

Copper cowboy
Ready to dip your toe into the land of red hair? Try “cowboy copper,” which combines a rich spicy color with brown tones for a softer look. The trend was all over TikTok last year, but it’s not going anywhere for the fall of 2024 (we can thank Cowboy Carter for that).
Umber brunette
This brown hair look is far from boring. There are so many unique tones and variations of brown hair color, including this deep, cool-toned brown that turns into a warmer toner at the ends of Ana de Armas.
Dark chocolate
Do you want to look rich? Just wear a super deep-brunette hair color, like Laura Harrier. Keep your color from fading by opting for a sulfate-free shampoo—it won’t give you the same delicious lather, but your color will stay bold for longer.

Platinum
Blondes do happier, mrs. Rowland!! Go against the grain this fall and opt for a fully-opaque, bright-as-hell platinum dye-job. Although unexpected for a season full of dark colors, cool undertones are a great way to manipulate your way into a fall ‘do while lighter.
Partially black
However, if your vibe is dark, moody, and grungey, then try this deep-brown hair color, as seen above on Kaia Gerber. It’s basically black, with a bit of warmth in the tone that veers more into brunette territory. Consider the upscale, grown-up version of your dream goth makeover from the 8th grade.
Bold burgundy
Hey, if you’re switching to red wine, why not switch your hair color with it too? This luxurious color is full of depth, it doesn’t need highlights to add dimension. It catches the light on its own (plus, a shine spray definitely helps).

Rich honey
Honey highlights are the best accessory this fall (right next to all the fall jewelry trends our editors have predicted). The look is warm, luxurious manuka, though—not the stuff that comes out of a plastic bear. Aka beat the brassiness with hair toner twice a month.
Caramel ribbons
Hair colorist Abby Haliti said earlier Cosmo whose clients are always asking for warm-toned fall highlights in a natural-looking dimension. Peep Ciara’s caramel highlights above—they’re bold and thick, yes, but the rich, warm tones are less noticeable.

Baby-lighted brunette
Selena Gomez’s itsy-bitsy highlights add just a hint of dimension to make her color pop without adding too much contrast (or completely frying her dark hair). “People want to get a strong fall color, but they don’t want a lot of maintenance,” says hairstylist Stephanie Brown, so she recommends “low-maintenance, high-impact” colors. of hair
Amber brown
EmRata’s hair is so bad shining recently. Try coating your hair with a color glaze to add a warm sheen and shine without changing your color too much.
Mushroom balayage
Gray hairs are a mainstay for Brown’s client list. But one way to rock the trend is this ashy balayage look on Mia Goth, above. It has a soothing, humble quality that fits perfectly with all the earthy fall vibes.

Iced meringue
Fun fact: “Iced meringue” is the name of the boxed dye from L’Oreal that my mom used in the early ’00s to get her hair the same bleach-blonde as Gabbriette above. So it makes sense that this is now a color in 2024 that I have my eye on myself. Of course, this will require a bit of bleaching, so stock up on hair-bonding treatments to strengthen afterwards.
Hot espresso
That’s hot espresso! (so sorry). Anyway! Simone Ashley’s signature color has been on my mood boards for years, thanks to its super dark color with red-y undertones that add dimension throughout her curls. This is a great copy if you also have dark hair, as you can simply layer on a warm toner to mimic the richness.
Vanilla sugar
Speaking of espresso, Sabrina Carpenter’s sheer blonde is looking very (not short but) sweet these days. (Okay, no more, I promise!!) This creamy, vanilla blonde is about to become one of the most requested colors in salons, according to every stylist I spoke to.

Soft balayage
even though (Cosmo cover girl, heeeyyy) Ashley Park’s hair looks one-dimensional in the first pic above, if you scroll, you’ll see that she has a super-underrated balayage all over her ends that adds some light to her ends. IK what you think: Why bright for autumn? But it’s definitely a great hack for letting your hair out a little against all the big black coats and jackets.
Spiced ginger
Well, there you have it: All the reasons why you need to go red this fall. Thanks, Storm Reid! This auburn hair color will soon be all over everyone’s feeds this fall as the go-to red shade for those wanting a more toned-down take on red hair. It’s got all the spice—thanks to the mix of ginger and deep red color—with the added depth to take out a little orange or fire.
